Absenteeism
absence doesn’t always make the heart grow fonder

i haven’t always been there
for her.
there were many years
where i was slaving in
a foreign land
while she was crying
for me in the
pouring rain.
i missed PTA meetings,
i missed sporting events,
i missed special performances,
i missed being her listening ears
in times of fears,
simply put,
i missed a lot.
she has learned to forgive me,
things, time and experiences
has helped her see that
fatherhood isn’t always
straightforward and easy.
despite the misses
she never stopped loving me.
i have come to
admired her adult maturity
and her self confidence
in facing the world and its
myriad faces.
she has a certain strength
that assures me
that she will be ok
despite what life tosses her way.
somewhere along the way,
i must have done
something right.
somewhere along the way,
i must have left
some positive footprints
for her to walk in without fear.
i haven’t always been there
for her,
i missed so many years,
I missed so many precious moments,
we both shed many lonely tears,
she had to face so many fears,
all alone
without her daddy being nearby.
