My dearest son,
Though your father is not around,
Let that not be your excuse
For not becoming the great man
You are destined to be.
Be the difference we want to see in this society

My dearest son,
Though I am your mother,
I am a woman too
And just as you respect me,
You must respect all women too.

Never debase a woman
Even if she seems unworthy
If you have nothing positive to say
Keep a still tongue.

My dearest son,
When you’re older and have found
The woman you love,

Never raise your hand or lay a finger upon her
Unless it is to pamper and pleasure her.
She is not a punching bag.
She is your companion, soulmate and lover.

My dearest son,
When you have your children of your own
Love them with all your might

And be there for them always
Do not only be PRESENT,
But let your PRESENCE be felt.
Give them what your father did not give to you.

My dearest son,
Though there are many ills in this society,
You will find your right path
But I do not promise you it will be easy.

Just remember to keep your head high
And be the great man
You are destined to be.
